It is important that the students are motivated and open-minded. If they have already a knowledge of the Middle East region, it will certainly help them. I strongly recommend them to read as much requested readings as possible before joining the course.

Course Description

The main objective of this course is not to force students to learn a lot of information and knowledge, but to give them the intellectual tools and a sufficient background to analyze by themselves and decipher the course of events in the Middle East. They will have to participate actively, to do some works and to make a brief synthesis of the news of the week in the Middle East. My teaching will not be theoretical, but based on my practical experience and knowledge of the Middle East. I will teach them an original method to analyze any geopolitical crisis. Not only in the Middle East, but worldwide. I will not advocate any cause in the region. I will do my best to analyze as much objectively as possible the situation resulting from field's reality. The master words will be objectivity and realism.

RAZOUX, Pierre (Research Director in charge of regional and strategic security studies)

Course validation

I will evaluate each student on his active participation, on several written works and on a test.
