Course Description

This course aims to provide students with a basic understanding of statistical analysis for policy research/assessment, both theoretical and applied, through the use of statistical software.

Pedagogical format

The student is expected when completening the course, to : - Identify a problem, state a problem and a question, and to answer that question using language and methods of statistics. - Access to new ways of thinking (making questions) and effective tools for answering them. - Acquire a new vocabulary and understand concepts and methods of statistics to interpret common information in media. - Small introduction to statistical software (not mandatory but code and examples will be provided). In specific, the students will be familiarized with the software R, from which they will run examples at home.

Course validation

To validate the course, the student is expected to pass the following assignments (at least three grades): 1 - Final exam (30%). 2 – 3 Controls of 45 minutes (session 3, 6 , and 9) (60%). 3 - Active/relevant participation (10%).
