Course Description

This course is an introduction to the economics of education. This class will combine economic theory, econometric and institutional literature to address the economic aspects of current issues in education. Some of the topics to be discussed include the human capital theory, the growing impact of education on earnings and earnings inequality, the empirical problem of disentangling the return to education from the return to innate ability; the role of education in national economic growth and the role of early childhood education. This exercise will help students become more knowledgeable about the economics of education literature, and they will learn how to apply the tools of economic analysis to an important policy issue.
