Course Description

The course will provide an introduction to Cultural Economics. In the first part the analysis will focus on general issues concerning all the cultural sectors and industries: consumption, labour market, technology, industrial organization, trade. In the second part the analysis will shift to sectors: arts market, heritage, performing arts, book publishing, music, film and broadcasting. In the final part cultural policies will be considered both from the economic and institutional points of view. For some of these topics international case studies will be presented and discussed.

Pedagogical format

Lessons supported by ppt presentations. The format of lessons is open to discussion and interaction

Course validation

Mid-term paper assigned to each student among a list of themes (40%). Final examination (60%)

Workload

In addition to each two-hour session, students are expected to devote another two hours for the preparation of readings suggested for the following lecture
