Course Description

From a comparative perspective, this course will cover current issues in employment discrimination law as they unfold in France and the United States. After a close look at how employment law has developed in both countries, the course will focus more deeply on a series of issues including: the meaning of racial discrimination and diversity; proof of disparate treatment and disparate impact discrimination; sex and transgender discrimination; the gender wage gap; harassment in the workplace; religious accommodation; age discrimination and its proxies; the concept of disability and of intersectionality.

Course validation

A 15-minute presentation of opposing arguments presented in class by two students on one of the class topics and a 10-page research paper developing one of the issues presented. Oral participation is graded. Follow-up questions on course pack are answered for each class.
