Course Description

The course examines the most influential explanations of the causes of war. Drawing upon the literature from social psychology, strategic studies, diplomatic history, sociology, political theory, and international relations, we will identify key variables and the causal paths that shed light on war as a recurrent phenomenon as well as on particular wars. Historical examples will constantly illustrate the theoretical material.
