Course Description

Jean Francois Phelizon, DGA de Saint-Gobain, and General Sir Rupert Smith, drawing on their extensive experience in business and military operations, will explain the practical application of strategic theory. While historical examples will be used by way of illustration the emphasis of the course will be on current geo-political circumstances. Our present strategic circumstances are marked by the shattering of the old strategic paradigm. As a result and whether in commerce or in international affairs, previous ‘strategies' have proved to be an unreliable guide to future action. More than ever original thought based on the concepts of both East and West is required. The fundamental requirements for forming and executing an appropriate strategy will be discussed during the course.

The course will be divided into twelve sessions of two hours each. As follows :
27 Jan: Introduction, JFP and RS ---- Overview of the course, teaching method, dissertations, and an explanation of Definitions.
30 Jan: Confrontation and Vision,
3 Feb: The Strategist,
6 Feb: The Narrative,
10 Feb: Strategy,
3 Mar: Resistance,
6 Mar: Movement,
10 Mar: The Operations,

17 Mar: Security,

24 Mar: Conclusion
