Course Description

The objective of the course is to provide an introduction to the economic analysis of public policy issues. The focus of the course will be to provide a theoretical framework of public economic concepts and link them to actual public policy applications. There will be a specific emphasis on public policy evaluation and on the development of analytical tools. The course will start by analysing the general problem and methods of welfare and distributional analysis. We will then review the traditional rational for government intervention. By the end of the course, students should be able to understand the main questions behind the contemporary economic policy themes reviewed in the course and the basic empirical methods used in public policy evaluation.

Course validation

The course will be evaluated on the basis of two pieces of coursework (20% each) and a final exam (60%).
