Course Description

This course provides students the opportunity to explore the concept of cultural diversity and to understand the issues and modalities of its integration in public policies in a 21st-century context (globalization, climate change, revolution of information and communications technology). It will examine the genesis of this concept and will focus on the spirit, scope and limits of the UNESCO conventions for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage (2003) and the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions (2005). Finally, the course will propose to analyze, through a cultural diversity perspective, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development adopted in 2015 by the United Nations.
