Course Description

This course is designed for master students who are interested in learning about defense and security issues in Asia. It will address the current political and strategic dynamics in Asia through the lenses of defense and security. It will start by a broad introduction to level the field and then it will be divided in three parts: the first part will focus on the roots of China's growing influence. The second will address the issue of the historical powers and their (somehow difficult) relations with China. Then the third part will specifically focus on prominent aspects of defense and security dynamics in Asia – not always involving China. The course will examine the organizations, the actions and the multi-level interactions of the key players within the Region. This course has no prerequisite and it is explicitly designed to provide an insightful approach to defense and security issues.
