Course Description

The course Asset Management in Europe aims at providing knowledge on how investment and portolio construction take effectively place for a portfolio manager today. After reviewing key assets management trends such as general market development and their players, passive (ETF, low costs) vs active or responsible investment (ESG) providing the necessary foundation for the understanding of the business/industry, the course will focus very concretely on different assets classes (equity, fixed income, alternatives,…) and investment style (growth, value, small cap…) and how chief investment officer combines them to build an efficient portfolio to deliver an expected outcome to the clients.

Pedagogical format

The course aims at preparing students for professional life, so it will be very concrete combining presentation on specific topics, concrete case studies and real life examples. It will include debates and discussions. Preparation material is available on the Internet through the website of selected products and asset managers.

Course validation

The group presentation will represent 30% of the grade, the case study 30%, the short test at the last meeting 20%, the class participation/news case 20%.
