Pre-requisite

The course will be best suited for students who have a solid understanding of basic economic and financial concepts and have a strong interest in combining a business approach and investing rigor with development and impact topics.

Course Description

Private equity refers as a funding mechanism as well as an effective lever for value creation within a business, especially in emerging countries where opportunities have developed significantly in the last decade. The course will focus on the specific challenges faced by fund managers in emerging countries compared to developed markets and will examine the various approaches used to mitigate these risks. The impact of private equity on the local enterprises and economies will also be analyzed. The course will be illustrated by case studies with examples from different sectors (services, banking, infrastructure) and regions (Africa, Asia, Latin America and Europe), as well as by the intervention of external professionals working in the industry.
