Course Description

The course proposes an analysis of the role of Member States within the European Union in general, and of France in particular. It will question the very notion of Memberstateness in order to analyze both: The on-going state of the European Union (role of national interests, leadership, diagnostic of decline in a context of poly-crisis…) The on-going changes within Member States provoked by their belonging to the European Union (Europeanisation of politics and policies, domestic narratives related to the EU…).  The phenomenon of exit the EU, through the concrete case of Brexit. The first part of the course will address those issues from a general standpoint. The second part will consider the example of France dealing both with France's role in the EU and France's Europeanisation.
