Course Description

OBJECTIFS DU COURS / COURSE GOALS This workshop is tailored for students in exchange at Sciences Po. It is designed to provide key elements about the French media landscape, its recent history and the political positioning of various media outlets. The course will be divided in 3 topics : The French media landscape : since 1945, how the newsrooms are organized and how the French State is involved (the French movement named “the resistance” after World War II, the cooperatives, the Forges committee, etc.) The main political steps of the press (The Algerian War and the launching of the newspaper magazine L'Express, May 1968 and the history of the newspaper Libération, 1981 and the new free radios… until the age of Emmanuel Macron's presidency) Specificities of radios in France
