Course Description

************************************************************************************************* EN* Marikel Lahana is a photographer and lecturer in photography. She graduated in Photography at National school of Photography in Arles 2008 & in The Fresnoy (Art research centre) in 2010. In 2008, Marikel received the « Bourse du Talent » prize for her Portrait works. The same year she's been exhibited in the national public Library BNF in Paris. In 2009, she won the MJA (Mission for young artist). Since then Marikel has had solo and group exhibitions around the world (Berlin, Reykjavik, Modena, Milan, Amsterdam, Lisbon, Paris, Dali, Pingyao, Beijing, Toronto…). In 2013, she won the prize of the young photographer in Dali (China) and her last group exhibition in Paris (La Samaritaine) welcomed more than 10,000 visitors. She was also at the “Carroussel du Louvre” for the Fotofever photography art fair (2014), with her serie “Génuflexion”. This course is intended for anyone curious about photography and is keen on learning more. Students will study how to look at the world through a camera lens and develop a photography language as an image-making medium. This course will take you through the history of contemporary photography and analyse the work of major artists such as Nan Goldin, Anders Petersen, Antoine D'Agata, Michael Ackerman, Martin Paar… It will offer a short overview about: portrait, fine art, documentary, war, fashion, street and conceptual photography. Students will learn about structuring a picture, finding the frame and the light. This course will also introduce the fundamentals formal and informal, on location, and in the studio portraiture. Through demonstrations and discussions the course will explain the various elements of portraiture, such as gesture, expression, pose. The photography practise will cover the technical considerations including camera placement, selective focus and multiple exposures. The course will allow students time to practise and experiment with the medium to define their own language and expression.

Workload
