Number of hours : 24

Course Description

The course aims to provide insights on trends and analytical concepts on global health, with a focus on a range of concepts used in social science to grasp and problematize global health issues. It is organized to provide general tools in policy analysis and sociology to analyse recurring and important issues in health policies at different levels, both global and transnational. While the first courses will focus on public policy dynamics at large, other courses will provide more specific tools to better understand players and processes in the field of health (the role of professions, patient organisations, expertise organisations). Finally, current global issues will be introduced and discussed as open and sometime contented topics, as prove it the debates on multilateralism, on innovation or on migrations.

  • BENAMOUZIG, Daniel (Chargé de recherche)

Course validation

The student will be assessed on the basis of a policy note that they will submit to their professors at the last session of the course. The Basic Instructions and recommendations are the following: You are working in a public health and/or health care related organisation (a NGO, a Ministry, an International Organisation, a foundation, an industry, etc.) and your hierarchical superior (chief/head of unit/Minister/director, etc.) will attend an international forum (conference/meeting/expert group, etc.) in which the possible solutions to address a global health issue will be discussed and, possibly, whose policy will be decided upon. He/she needs a policy brief in which the following dimensions of the issue at stake could be elaborated on.

Complementary reading references are given by professors during the course.
