No previous knowledge is required to join the class, just a strong interest in innovation and analysis. In particular, no computer science or mathematical knowledge is required.
Course Description
This course will provide key concepts to understand the impact of the “Big Data” revolution on public, private and thirdsector organizations. It will impart actionable skills to generate insights (ex: network analysis, geotemporal analysis, data visualization). It will also focus on common biases when dealing with quantitative information, data integration approaches and wider organizational issues associated. It is also meant to expose students to the privacy and civil liberties challenges that come along, and help them forge their own opinion through debates.

Pedagogical format
Group work, case studies, deep dives and guest teachers.
Course validation
Oral presentation (15 minutes) on a case study describing the impact of data analytics on one issue or organization (40%). Debate with the class (20 minutes) confronting opposite views on an ethics, privacy and civil liberties issues (40%). Participation in class (10%).
Workload
12 seminars of two hours each (24 hours).
