Course Description

The course with explore the intersection between facts and figures linked to territories (resources) , the basics of the Industry (products , infrastructures and operating modes) and the strategies and policies run by the main actors (States and companies). The course primarily deals with oil and gas, the most geopolitical energies, with some insights into nuclear and renewables. One class is dedicated to environmental issues. Three classes focus on regional aspects (Middle East, Russia/ CIS, Asia, Europe, Americas, Africa). At the end of the course, students hopefully will have a sufficient understanding of the basic data and operating modes of the Industry to enable them to develop their own reading of any geopolitical situation involving energy.

Pedagogical format

The first 40 minutes of each class will be dedicated to the presentations given by students (see above : 20 minutes presentation followed by 20 minutes debate/ comments. The rest of the class will be lecturing. Two/three lectures will be given by external experts

Course validation

General class participation (10% of grade). Write one of two proposed memos (40% of grade). Presentation of one topic selected among 10/11 proposed: 20 minutes presentation given by group of 2/4 students (50% of grade)
